Rae Carson ultimately loves to LIE to herself about Star Wars canon to make herself feel good about Star Wars. What about the SW prequels are such people so afraid of as to continue FEEDING this toxic obsession with hating on the SW prequels? I think this continuation of whining about the SW prequels to no end is due to fear.
Sheesh, again? I’ve pretty much given up on being invested in this new canon anyway, but still! If Lucasfilm hates the prequels so much that they keep hiring people like this, they might as well decanonize them and get it over with.
f** her and everyone else disney needs to stop hiring prequel haters it’s going to cost them in the long I won’t be buying her books the same for the other author from earlier
and these two have written 3 of the books that will tie into the upcoming solo movie i will not buy them others should do the same we will not tolerate hack writers who trash the prequels boycott all books written by these prequel hating pieces of sh*t
That’s the spirit, Joanne. Odd how they continue to generate such detraction. Bashing them long ago became a geek-media/blogospheric/cyber-signalling tradition. A lazy shibboleth, if you will. Criticism of art is fine, but I’m not sure all this opprobrium thrown at the prequels had much validity to begin with. “There is something else behind this, Your Highness. There’s no logic to the bashers’ moves here. My feelings tell me they will destroy themselves.” Quipping aside, to paraphrase Emerson, let’s continue to embrace the prequels and chant the beauty of the good. 🙂
Yes definitely. I noticed in some circles people bashed the prequels because they thought it made them accepted by their peers. I’ve seen some very long critiques which discussed the prequels as films and found merit in them, yet I have yet to see prequel bashing beyond the superficial level. At the moment I’m writing what has turned out to be a very long article on the prequels and I’m not sure it when it will be completed. I’m someone who likes to have long in-depth discussions about films, but when I talk to people about what they don’t like about the prequels I usually get a set of standard responses, but no real thought into it.
Oh, I’ve been there, about a billion times! You ought to see my IMDb archives. 😉 Standard responses, little thought put into most critiques, hostility to positive, fine-grained, and unusual views; and, last but not least, and not all that infrequently, arguing for the sake of arguing. Not to mention the tried-and-true ad hominem and strawman attack routines. No wonder C-3PO tells Artoo that Luke is quite clever —
“for a human being”.
There are, indeed, some cogently-argued, and very thought-out prequel defences and interesting monograms out there. Good luck on your own effort! Be sure to put it up somewhere where we all can read it. I’ll just drop a few existing ones in here for inspiration. (EDIT: This turned out to be a longer list than expected! But I haven’t surprised anyone with a list for a while, so you’re in luck. :p )
Some of these will be familiar to you, perhaps; and a few might well be new to your eyes. I’ve grouped them together in terms of the following categories: TPM(i), AOTC(ii), ROTS(iii), the PT(iv), two (predominantly prequel-focused) Tumblr pages of interest(v); and the bottom two are artistic/philosophical/metaphysical interpretations of ANH/the OT(vi), but which also have broad applicability to the PT and Lucas saga as a whole. Peruse at your leisure. 🙂
Cryogenic – thank you so much for the list. In the aftermath of TFA and my disappointment with that film, I went looking for articles that might give me insight as to why I liked the Prequels better. They were few and far between, but what I found (usually through the SWPAS) was so rich. They have helped me to understand intellectually things that I guess I knew intuitively.
You’re welcome, Moose! The SWPAS is an excellent resource. Plenty of outstanding articles uncovered by lazypadawan; and lots of good links on the right-hand side of her blog page. You may notice that a couple of those links were duplicated in my own list above. I hear you regarding TFA. I sense it had that effect on a few people. And generally speaking: One can never really read or explore enough. There is always more to learn. One of many motifs I am glad to find implanted in the prequels. Venturing down the road to knowledge, and embracing the intellectual quest to understand, are life-long pursuits. Much beauty and bounty are the gradual/eventual reward.

I think I’ve figured it out. Twitter is a toxic environment that brings out your inner asshole.

I increasingly like to pretend the sale to Disney never happened.

Like it or not the Prequels are part of the Saga. I’m disappointed people are still whining about them. I love them.
