“It’s become something of a truism to say that the Star Wars Prequels are pretty awful films.

They’ve become concepts that slipped into popular culture and never really left.

Even the people who don’t like Star Wars, and have never seen the films, know that these productions are the bad ones.

And yet, this critical consensus is in fact rather unfair.

Sure, the Star Wars Prequels are imperfect – no one’s ever going to really argue that they aren’t – but there’s still a lot to like about them.

And when it comes down to it, they’re actually a lot better than people give them credit for.

The plot is quite clever

Everyone always focuses on the trade disputes, but let’s be honest – they’re just picking on one poorly written part.

When it actually comes down to it, the story of a shadowy menace, who plunges a galaxy into civil war while playing both sides, and the moral decline of the Jedi make utterly fantastic overarching plots for this trilogy of films.

In many ways, the Star Wars Prequels actually have a much more ambitious storyline than the originals.

Yes, the execution was flawed, but the concepts involved are actually pretty compelling.

Surely it deserves credit for that?

There are a lot of fantastic scenes

As well as being quick to dismiss the value of the films as a whole, people are also quick to forget the standout scenes from these films.

From the emotional impact of executing order 66, the sheer thrill of the Duel of the Fates, or the bombastic spectacle of Episode III’s opening scene, there’s a lot to love in these flicks.

No doubt, even the harshest critic of these films would be able to admit there are scenes they love – and once you’ve realised that, you’ve begun to acknowledge that maybe the Prequels aren’t quite as bad as everyone says they are. […]”
