Disney CEO says there will be a “slowdown” on Star Wars movies
From The Hollywood Reporter:
“Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger remains the most powerful person in entertainment, only adding to his empire with $71 billion of 21st Century Fox assets. […]
In a talk with THR editorial director Matthew Belloni, Iger discussed his plan for Disney “to not only survive but to thrive in a world that doesn’t look anything like the world that existed just a few years ago.” […]
Many believe Disney should pump the breaks and not put out a Star Wars movie each year.
I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.’s. But I think we’re going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.”

there were many mistakes the disrespect towards lucas burtt and true fans who love all six movies bringing people like jj pegg and johnson onboard the sh*tty treatment of han luke and leia not having a reunion of the power trio leia not becoming a jedi no wedge no lando(bringing him back for 9 is a case of too little too late) undoing the ending of return of the jedi dumping the eu canceling the clone wars no new jedi order (turning luke into a failure) the worhtless deaths of han luke and ackbar breaking up han and leia their smug attitude about practical effects need i say more?

You’re right, Joe. And to add to that salutary list:
– Changing the whole culture of Lucasfilm; making it more regimented, autocratic, and less inviting than it used to be
– Discarding Lucas’ treatments in favour of a more ruthlessly commercial strategy
– Placing mandates/manacles on creative choices and narrowly constricting the look, tone, and feel of the new films; and firing people like it’s going out of style
– Firing J.W. Rinzler and censoring his blog/memoirs
– Scrapping the release of “making of” books for all the new films
– Being very tightfisted and controlling and putting out lame behind-the-scenes material in general
– Cancelling the 3D releases of AOTC and ROTS and the OT films
– Running disinformation campaigns and trying to paint critics of the new films and the actions of Disney/LFL personnel as morally degenerate alt-right trolls
Apart from that, the future of Star Wars and mass-culture entertainment are in safe hands…

completely forgot about the 3-d films getting the axe

@ Joe:
Yeah!!! That’s the thing: They’ve committed so many infractions and given so many false assurances, one is soon going to need an “Encyclopedia Galactica” to keep track of them all.

“I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast.”
No, Bob. The first and foremost mistake you made (and that you don’t even recognize), was to arrogantly discard Lucas and his story for the sequel trilogy. And after the million dollar investment you made on your fan fictions, there’s no return from that. You’ve chosen the easy and more seductive path. And that path ultimately leads to destruction (in this case, the destruction of the IP). You are reaping what you sowed, and that’s not over yet.

in unrelated news gary kurtz who produced episodes 4 and 5 passed away we all know he was critical of the prequels and that many believe the quality of the films declined when he left which is bs as they say never speak ill of the dead rip but i know people are going to praise him and bash lucas as these crybabies always do
Cryogenic
They might do, Joe. But in any case, that’s sad news.

here’s another one the way r2 and 3po have been sidelined along with replacing r2 with bb-8
