The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian official trailer revealed

From Star Wars:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

I enjoyed this trailer. Two things that came into my mind:
    1. I assume (until proven wrong) that they will not retcon the Mandalore culture established in TCW. Hence, what is the relationship of this bounty hunter to Mandalore (apart from the armor)? Will this be discussed? Is he a renegade? (I am aware of a discussion that started below the article that presented the poster.)
    2. What movie references are there in this trailer (and in the series)? There is certainly the classic western setting, but the impaled Stormtrooper helmets at the beginning probably refer to another well-known movie? (I don’t know, this is why I ask. 🙂 )

      Two more (unrelated) observations:
      a) IG-88 shows up in the trailer. While I am not that interested in bounty hounters in general, I am curious to see him in action (yes, you do for 2 seconds in the trailer, but will he be more than just a one-episode sidekick?)
      b) The caught bounty hunter targets are frozen in carbonite. Interestingly, I have always assumed that freezing Han Solo was unusal, i.e., an exception. On the other hand, Lando only says that his freezing chamber is not suited for freezing living beings, and Darth Vader wants to freeze Luke, so I may be wrong and “preserving” your victims in carbonite may be common in the GFFA. (However, let’s be realistic – they probably and mainly put that into the series because it is iconic and considered “cool” – no pun intended.)
